In the case of rain:
We will still be hosting the race regardless of the weather. A decision will be made race day if the weather is unsafe to bike, and if so the race will be a 6 km run, 250 meter swim, followed by a 2 km run. The 6k is on regardless. If there is lightning, the race will be postponed until it’s been cleared for 30 min. Thank you for your understanding while we adjust to the weather!
Rules
We welcome all levels of athletes and our race is considered very beginner friendly. Triathlon can seem intimidating and complicated, but it’s as easy as swim, bike, and run, don’t sweat it too much! That being said, we do want to make sure everyone is aware of a few basic rules if you’re new to the sport. If you’re into fine print you can read more here.
Helmets must be worn at all times while on your bike. This means before, during, and after the event.
All handlebar ends must be solidly plugged to lessen the possibility of injury.
Headphones, headsets, walkmans, iPods, MP3 players, or personal audio devices, etc. are not to be carried or worn at any time during the race.
Positioning & Drafting – Please keep to the right-hand side of the lane of travel unless passing. Drafting is not allowed at this race. Please keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you and the cyclist in front. If you move to pass another racer, you must pass within 15 seconds. Please do not block (ride on the left side of the lane without passing anyone and interfering with other cyclists attempting to pass) other racers from passing.
USAT Sanctioning
This event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. All participants must have an annual membership valid through the race date, or must purchase a one-day license ($13 adult) during registration. Be sure to bring your ID and USAT card to packet pickup. A USAT license provides insurance, and an annual membership comes with additional benefits.
Parking
The bike course will be partially closed to traffic to allow for the safety and race experience of our athletes. We will work with UCI Transportation to ensure participant safety, and will have signage and volunteers posted at intersections. Please comply with the regular rules of the road, especially in portions that are partially closed to traffic.
Parking is available at the Anteater Recreation Center and Verano Parking Structure (Level 5 and up) for a fee. Please comply with all signage posted by the University of California.
